This 5.8km loop at Rhossili Down offers a quintessential Welsh trail running experience, combining soft grassy footpaths with a challenging 159m ascent. Starting near The Bay Car Park, you’ll begin with a relatively gentle traverse along the lower slopes, allowing your lungs to adjust before the climb. As you turn to conquer the "hilly" section of the route, the terrain remains predominantly unpaved and natural. Reaching the ridge rewarded runners with panoramic views of the Atlantic, where the bracing sea breeze and the springy turf make for a fast, technical descent back toward the village.
Rhossili Down is the highest point on the Gower Peninsula, the UK's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As you crest the summit at The Beacon, you are running over ancient history, passing Bronze Age burial mounds and the remains of a WWII radar station. Looking west, the iconic Worm’s Head snakes out into the Bristol Channel, while the 3-mile stretch of Rhossili Bay below is frequently voted among the best beaches in the world. It’s a landscape that feels wild and timeless, perfect for runners looking to escape the tarmac and immerse themselves in the rugged coastal heritage of Wales.
