Starting from the expansive Poppit Sands, this 6.2km out-and-back journey delivers a classic taste of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. With 144m of ascent, the route offers a spirited challenge for trail runners, transitioning from a smooth paved lane into rugged, undulating coastal singletrack. You’ll navigate a mix of rocky outcrops and windswept grassy paths as the trail snakes along the cliff edge. The terrain is moderately technical, requiring nimble footwork on the steep climbs, but the reward is a breathtaking panoramic view of Cardigan Bay that makes every ounce of effort worthwhile.
Cemaes Head marks the highest point on the Pembrokeshire coastline, and as a runner, you are traversing a landscape rich in maritime history and natural significance. The area near St Dogmaels is famous for its wildlife; the cliffs here are a vital nesting site for fulmars and razorbills, and if you keep an eye on the surging Atlantic below, you may spot the resident colony of Atlantic Grey Seals. Running through this protected nature reserve feels like a trip back in time, where the salt-heavy air and the dramatic geological formations of the Welsh coastline provide a raw, energetic backdrop for your morning miles.
