This 10km loop around St Anne's Head offers a quintessential Pembrokeshire running experience, blending rugged cliff-top trails with smooth, grassy tracks. Starting from the sheltered village of Dale, runners will tackle approximately 125m of ascent, featuring a mix of steady climbs and technical steps that keep the heart rate up. While about 15% of the course is paved, the heart of the run is found on the narrow, undulating coastal paths where the Atlantic breeze provides a natural cooling system. The terrain is moderately hilly, demanding focused footwork—especially on the sections overlooking the steep cliffs—but the reward is a breathtaking panoramic view of the Milford Haven Watery and the Celtic Sea.
Steeped in maritime history, the peninsula of St Anne's Head serves as a sentinel for one of the world’s deepest natural harbors. As you navigate the loop, you’ll run past the iconic lighthouses that have guided sailors through these treacherous waters for centuries. This area is also a vital habitat for seabirds: keep an eye out for gannets and choughs soaring above the crags. Local runners often recommend finishing the session with a cooldown along Dale beach, followed by a well-earned coffee at the village quay, which has been a hub for seafarers and explorers since the Viking era.
