This 5.9km coastal loop from St Justinian’s offers an immersive trail running experience through some of the most dramatic landscapes in Pembrokeshire. With a modest 30m of ascent, the route is less about grueling climbs and more about navigating the technical, rocky terrain of the undulating Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Runners will encounter narrow, single-track segments and rugged underfoot conditions that demand concentration, especially as the path winds high above the crashing waves of Ramsey Sound. While the trail can get busy with hikers near the lifeboat station, the breathtaking views of secluded bays and turquoise waters make every stride worthwhile.
Steeped in maritime history, St Justinian’s serves as the gateway to the RSPB Ramsey Island nature reserve and is home to both the historic and ultra-modern RNLI lifeboat stations. As you run, keep an eye out for grey seals in the inlets below and listen for the calls of choughs nesting in the cliffs. The area is named after the 6th-century monk St Justinian, a contemporary of St David, whose chapel ruins still stand near the harbor. This route captures the wild, spiritual essence of St David’s peninsula, offering a perfect blend of high-energy trail running and serene Celtic coastal beauty.
