Experience the rugged beauty of the Pembrokeshire Coast on this 6.3km loop that packs a punch with its technical terrain and rewarding vertical gain. Starting from the golden sands of Whitesands Bay, you’ll navigate the iconic Pembrokeshire Coast Path—a stretch of narrow, winding trails that demand nimble footwork over rock and dirt. The route then breaks away for the steady 178m ascent up Carn Llidi. While the main trail weaves through fragrant heather and gorse, the final push to the summit is a steep, rocky scramble that rewards runners with a 360-degree panorama of the Atlantic. Expect a mix of fast coastal segments and a challenging "Level 4" hilly climb that will test your hill-climbing prowess before a technical descent back to the beach.
Carn Llidi is steeped in both natural majesty and deep Welsh history. As you run past the dramatic crags, you are passing through a landscape once inhabited by Neolithic settlers; look out for the prehistoric burial chambers, such as Coetan Arthur, nestled on the slopes. This area of St David's is the most westerly point in Wales, and on clear days, your high-altitude effort might be rewarded with a glimpse of the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland across St George’s Channel. The trail is part of the UK's only fully coastal National Park, offering a unique microclimate where the salt spray meets the moorland, making every mile feel like an escape into the wild periphery of the British Isles.
