This 6.6km loop in the heart of Snowdonia offers a quintessential Welsh trail running experience, blending steady technical climbs with breathtaking rewards. Starting in the Aber Community, runners face a challenging ascent early on, gaining nearly 200m of elevation. The terrain transitions from soft grassy trails and earthy single-track to well-maintained gravel paths as you approach the magnificent Rhaeadr Fawr (Aber Falls). The route is designed with an anticlockwise flow, allowing you to tackle the steep gradients with fresh legs before enjoying a more gradual, scenic decent. Be sure to utilize the untimed section to detour toward the base of the falls; the mist from the 37-meter drop is the perfect natural coolant mid-run.

Steeped in Welsh history and glacial geology, the Coedydd Aber valley is more than just a picturesque backdrop. As you run through this National Nature Reserve, you are traversing land that dates back to the Iron Age, with several hut circles and archaeological remains hidden in the surrounding hills. Rhaeadr Fawr itself is formed as the Afon Goch plunges over a massive sill of igneous rock, marking the boundary between the mountains and the sea. This area was once a private estate and remains a vital habitat for local wildlife, including buzzards and ravens that can often be seen soaring above the valley floor while you navigate the ancient woodland paths.
