Route Overview & Local Insights

This 9.4km circuit offers a quintessential North Wales running experience, blending challenging climbs with fast, flat recoveries. Characterized by its "SL" course type, you will tackle a diverse mix of terrain including paved backroads, rugged hillside paths, and a beautifully level stretch along a converted disused railway line. The 193m of vertical gain is concentrated in the ascents of Y Foel and Graig Fawr, rewarding your effort with panoramic views that stretch across the Vale of Clwyd toward the Irish Sea. It is a technical but exhilarating loop that tests your climbing legs before letting you open up your stride on the lower-level trails.

Dyserth itself is steeped in industrial and natural history, most famous for its dramatic 70-foot waterfall and its limestone heritage. As you traverse Graig Fawr, you are running over an outcrop owned by the National Trust, known for its rare flora and Carboniferous limestone. This area served as a focal point for local mining for centuries, and running the old railway track connects you directly to the village’s Victorian past when these routes transported stone and minerals down to the coast. It’s a landscape where the echoes of ancient geology and industrial ambition meet under the open Welsh sky.
