Route Overview & Local Insights

This 8.5km route offers an exhilarating mix of coastal paths and steep, grassy climbs, perfect for runners who love a technical challenge with a view. Starting in Craigside, you’ll tackle the dramatic limestone headland of the Little Orme, where the terrain shifts from paved sections to rugged single tracks. With 230m of ascent, the climb up Nant-y-Gamar and the loop around Mynydd will test your glutes, but the payoff is a 360-degree panorama of Llandudno Bay and the Irish Sea. Expect some "hilly" segments that require agile footwork, especially on the descent as you navigate the blend of trails and pavement back toward the North Wales Coast Path.

Steeped in natural beauty and local lore, the Little Orme (Creigiau Rhiwledyn) is the quieter, wilder cousin to the famous Great Orme. As you run, keep an eye out for the resident colony of grey seals that often frequent the secluded Angel Bay below the cliffs. This area is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and the hills of Nant-y-Gamar have provided a backdrop to North Wales life for centuries. While the Great Orme draws the crowds, this route through the eastern edge of Llandudno offers a more authentic, rugged experience, following paths used by local shepherds and coastal watchers throughout Welsh history.
