This 9.3km coastal loop offers a fantastic blend of flat seaside sprinting and a challenging limestone climb. Starting from the sweeping sands of Colwyn Bay Beach, you'll follow the North Wales Path along the promenade before heading inland toward the Bryn Euryn Nature Reserve. The route is 80% paved, making it ideal for road runners looking for a variety of scenery, though the ascent up Bryn Euryn provides a significant "hilly" spike that will test your hill-climbing legs. You'll be rewarded with panoramic views across the Irish Sea and the Snowdonia mountain range before descending through Rhos-on-Sea to finish back on the vibrant seafront.
Rich in local history and biodiversity, the area around Bryn Euryn is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). As you navigate the trails on the hill, you are running through ancient history, passing near the site of Llys Euryn, a 15th-century medieval manor house, and the remains of an Iron Age hillfort. Colwyn Bay itself has undergone a major transformation in recent years, with its restored promenade and Porth Eirias watersports center becoming a hub for the North Wales running community. This route captures the best of the town's Victorian charm and its rugged, natural Welsh landscapes.
