This 16.6km loop offers a quintessential Mallorcan running experience, blending a challenging ascent with rewarding coastal vistas. Starting from the heart of Sóller, the route tackles a steady climb into the Tramuntana foothills, reaching an elevation of 295m before a technical, steep descent down toward the sparkling waters of Port de Sóller. With a mix of 55% paved surfaces and rugged trail sections, runners will encounter a "Level 3" hilly profile that tests the glutes on the way up and the quads on the way down. The final stretch levels out significantly, providing a flatter terrain to find your rhythm, interrupted only by a minor 35m bump to keep the legs honest before returning to town.
Sóller is often referred to as the "Valley of Gold," a name earned during the 19th century when the region became wealthy through the export of citrus fruits to France. As you run through the valley and up toward Sa Figuera, you'll pass ancient dry-stone walls and terraced olive groves that have been painstakingly maintained for centuries. The High Route provides a unique vantage point over the port—historically protected from pirate raids by the surrounding cliffs—offering a sense of the isolation that kept this majestic corner of the Illes Balears a hidden gem until the arrival of the famous wooden train in 1912. Running here is as much a journey through Mediterranean history as it is a workout.
