This 5.2km out-and-back route offers an exceptionally flat and accessible running experience through the heart of Stockport’s green belt. Following the well-maintained Ladybrook Valley Interest Trails between Bridge Lane and Chester Road, runners can expect a fully paved surface that is perfect for tempo sessions or a recovery jog. With only 11 meters of total ascent, this trail is one of the kindest in Greater Manchester for those looking to avoid hills, providing a smooth, linear corridor that allows you to focus entirely on your nesting pace and rhythm.
The Middlewood Way follows the historic trackbed of the former Macclesfield, Bollington, and Marple Railway, which closed in 1970. Today, it serves as a vital wildlife corridor and a "linear park" that connects suburban Stockport to the edge of the Peak District. Local runners appreciate this stretch for its sheltered feel, as the overhanging trees provide excellent protection from the wind and rain. After your run, you are perfectly positioned at the Chester Road end to explore the local independent cafes in nearby Poynton or Marple, areas steeped in industrial heritage and famous for their impressive canal lock flights.
