Experience the rugged beauty of the Fife coastline on this 6.2km out-and-back trail starting from the charming village of Kinghorn. This route is a runner’s delight, offering a largely paved surface (5.0km) that balances accessibility with the raw, natural aesthetic of the Scottish seaside. With a gentle total ascent of 34m, it’s a relatively flat course, though a few undulations keep things interesting for the legs. You’ll head north toward Seafield Beach, enjoying crisp sea air and sweeping views across the Firth of Forth. The path is perfect for maintaining a steady tempo while navigating the scenic bends of the Fife Coastal Path.
Kinghorn is steeped in Scottish history, famously known as the site where King Alexander III fell from his horse in 1286, an event that eventually led to the Wars of Scottish Independence. As you run past the volcanic rock formations and sandy bays, keep an eye out for the local grey seal colony often found sunning themselves near Seafield. The area was once a bustling center for flax milling and shipbuilding, but today it serves as a peaceful escape for Fife runners. After finishing your 6.2km trek, the local cafes in Kinghorn provide the perfect spot to refuel with a view of the "Pettycur" sands.
