Huntress is an established recruitment company headquartered in Central London, with a vibrant team of 30 professionals and additional staff in regional offices. With a workforce that’s 80% female, spanning ages 23 to 59, and varying fitness levels, Huntress is a company that prioritizes the health and wellbeing of its employees. While recruitment is often desk-based, the energy, determination, and drive required for success are unmistakable—and so is the need to recharge.
Running emerged as the perfect outlet. It’s free, fun, and fosters camaraderie while providing a much-needed release from daily pressures. Enter Skamper, the app that transformed this idea into action, bringing the Huntress Run Club to life.
Skamper designed a custom 5k route from the Huntress office in Holborn on 1st August 2023, followed by a new route when the company relocated to the City of London in May 2024. Crafting these routes was no small feat—navigating busy London streets to connect with the scenic Thames required creativity and precision.
The goal? A true 5k starting at the office door, ready to squeeze into post-work Tuesdays. With no time to travel to better starting points, the route had to balance technical challenge with convenience.
Since its launch, the club has logged over 270 runs by 22 different runners, with groups ranging from one or two participants to as many as seven. Between them they have clocked up 600 miles of running just around Holborn and St Paul’s, with many of them also using the app to run routes close to their homes in addition to the Huntress Run Club. Many have shown incredible consistency, with one runner registering 109 runs. Since the club started, runs have been registered in 75 out of 77 weeks, with Christmas breaks the only gaps.
The initiative has grown to include the Leeds office, with plans to expand to all locations.
One of Skamper's standout features is its "neutralized" sections. Busy road crossings come with warning hooters and no competitive pressure to rush—a key detail for the results-driven recruitment world.
With pre-defined routes, everyone knows the way, and latecomers can catch up using the app. Faster runners can head home post-run, while slower participants aren’t left behind. Skamper ensures running fits seamlessly into the team’s busy schedules.
Skamper’s grading system levels the playing field. A 23-year-old speedster and a 58-year-old beginner can fairly compare progress and effort. It also allows teams across offices to compete on courses with entirely different challenges—ideal for Huntress’s goal-oriented culture.
With nearly 4,000 curated routes across the UK, Skamper lets runners explore new areas at their own pace, whether during weekdays or weekends. It’s become a personal favorite for Huntress staff, inspiring participation in marathons, mountain races, and more.
Huntress’s running culture is thriving. Five team members are gearing up for the 2025 London Marathon, others have ventured into the exhilarating world of mountain marathons, and participation across offices continues to grow. The results? A fitter, more enthusiastic workforce, boosted morale, and an engaging story to share with clients and new joiners.
